In 2023 I made a wonderful Chardonnay from my friend Gary’s vineyard (the same one that produced Cold Blooded Old Times) but found with time that I had maybe been a little overzealous with my use of new French oak, which was odd because this only revealed itself once the wine was moved to stainless steel for 6 months of élevage prior to bottling. So instead of bottling it in the spring of 2025, I held it back and matched it with two neutral French oak barrels from a new and exciting vineyard we’re working with just outside of the Portland city limits. Ultimately this wine may be better than the sum of its parts as it shows a richness coupled with an undeniable minerality.
